Pickleball

btr_icononly_pickleballThe Byron Township Community Center has Pickleball! We have organized times a few days a week to allow for this. See the schedule below, and please note that this is the most accurate schedule. Other websites in the area may share our information, but if there are changes, they are not always reflected.

WHAT IS PICKLEBALL?

A popular worldwide game, Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. It can be played indoors and out, with 2-4 players, on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. A game for everyone, the USAPA currently estimates there are now over 100,000 players actively playing Pickleball.

How do I play?

We welcome both new and experienced players to the game. We have courts for leisurely play, as well competitive play. New players are welcomed and taught the sport by more experienced players as they participate.

What do I need to know about Pickleball in Byron Center?

The times on the calendar are when we expect numerous players to participate. Drop-in play is available during open gym times on a first come, first served basis.

Byron Center has both indoor and outdoor courts. Indoor courts are available all year long, while the outdoor courts may be used during the summer months only.

The outdoor courts are at the tennis courts located at Bicentennial Park (8085 Byron Center Avenue) and Cutler Park (6701 Cutler Park Drive). Tennis nets are set up, but players must supply their own paddles and Pickleballs. First come, first served.

The indoor courts are located inside the Byron Township Community Center (2120 76th Street). The Rec Center provides and sets up Pickleball nets and has five lined courts. The Rec center also has a supply of Pickleballs as well as some paddles for use by participants.

Outdoor courts are free to use as they are available. The indoor courts are available as the schedule dictates, and when not in use by others during open gym times. For indoor play, a membership to the Rec Center or the purchase of a day pass is required to play.

All first-time players are required to fill out a membership form/waiver at the front desk, prior to participating.
